Classified as a 1st growth, Château Haut Brion is the only property outside the Haut Medoc appellation to be in the 1855’s classification. Located in Pessac Léognan, it was bought by the Clarence family in 1935. Today, grandson Prince Robert of Luxembourg is in charge of the domaine. The quality has always been consistent at Haut Brion, especially since the 1980’s and, it is today perceived as one of the world’s most elegant and complex wine. The production of the grand vin is very limited with less than 800 cases produced most years. View our selection. Vineyard & Winemaking 51 hectares of vineyard are planted with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. Another 3 hectares are planted with 63% Semillon and 37% Sauvignon Blanc. The red wines are matured for 22 months in new oak barrel and the whites spend 15 months on their lees in barrel. Wines Produced Château Haut-Brion (grand vin), Bahan Haut Brion now called Clarence de Haut Brion (second vin). They also produce 3 white wines; Château Haut-Brion Blanc, Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc and recently La Clarté de Haut Brion.
